Just
before this walkway you'll see The Barge restaurant. Near here is another
information board with a short history of the Brayford area of Lincoln.

During the Industrial Revolution Lincoln was an important
centre and the Brayford Pool had many warehouses. It was a meeting point
between the water and the steam trains.
Of course the Mary Gordon, a product of this age, (the
oldest electric river boat) had an important part to play on the canal
and you'll get to see her a little later.

Just before leaving the area look back and you'll get
the feeling of what it must have been like only a 100 years ago.
A busy inland port area it could fit many barges in the
Brayford Pool.
As mentioned before, this area has recently had an extensive
regeneration project, but no more that 15 to 20 years ago you could still
see many of the warehouses that surrounded the water.
Continue along the walkway for 200 - 300 yards. It
opens up into Far Wharf . Head along Foss Bank with the water still on
your left, and houses on your left...
