‘When everybody feels bad about their bodies, it’s not the bodies that are the real problem’
Do we change our bodies because we want to or because we are being pressured to conform by society? Clare Chambers, Professor of Political Philosophy at Cambridge University and author of Intact – A Defence of the Unmodified Body, believes that the unmodified body is under attack. She says we are constantly given the message that our bodies are not good enough just as they are.
She joined Emma Barnett on 91¸£ÀûÉç Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour to discuss the expectations placed on women’s bodies after pregnancy, appearance anxiety and what she calls 'shametenance'.
