Mary's story

Mary comes from Worcester and has two boys, one of whom is severely autistic. These audio diaries detail the effect this has on her family.

Peter's disability has had a massive impact on the family – even though Mary and her husband live under the same roof, their marriage fell apart under the strain of looking after their son.

James, their other son, leads a very sheltered existence as a consequence of his younger brother's extreme behaviour.

In this series of incredibly moving audio diaries, recorded by Mary and James, we hear how she decides the best thing is to let Peter go into specialist residential care.

As a result everyone's lives change in extraordinary ways.
