what happened
Minute by minute report, via text message, by the 91福利社's Kate Lawrence.
- 19.43 - They are soothing us with noodly saxophone music over the tannoy...
- 20.02 - Mohicans are flopping but the anticipation mounts... The lights come on! People scream! Bah, they're just testing them.
- 20.41 - The noodly sax is still going on and there's no sign of the dark priestess yet...
- 20.56 -
Still waiting...
There are a HUGE number of goths in the toilets where they've been hiding all this time it would seem. The hairspray is flying!
- 21.04 - Woo hoo! Mary Anne Hobbs is on stage: "The Queen is up in the palace!"
- 21.06 - The band saunter on and are followed by a resplendent Siouxsie dressed in head to toe leather.
- 21.07 - They launch into a dreamy rendition of 'Dear Prudence'...
- 21.12 - Next up it's old classic 'Arabian Nights' - such a treat for the old school fans and still sounding fresh today.
- 21.14 - "This was our first single..." It's arms aloft for Hong Kong Garden!
- 21.16 -
Health and safety would probably have something to say about that microphone swinging.
- 21.18 - A new track up now... 'They Follow You'. The band are obviously more familiar with this material and it shows...
- 21.25 - It's like we're in a Bond film as we're hit with the sexy swagger of 'Here Comes That Day'.
- 21.27 - Good incy wincy spider hand mimes from Siouxsie for the "here comes the rain" bits
- 21.31 - Someone is smoking in the crowd! Siouxsie throws some ultra sexy shapes to 'Drone Zone' to distract the police.
- 21.37 - A dappled spotlight, a moody tune and Siouxsie Sioux. It's what goth dreams are made of!
- 21.42 - A short interlude so time for some fashion. The bassist is sporting a waistcoat and neckerchief look and the guitarist a pink leopard skin jacket. Hmm.
- 21.52 - News just in after trip to loos. Jonathan Ross is here! He's an ex punk so not entirely unexpected but cool nonetheless.
- 21.56 - 'About To Happen' gets people rocking only to continue into a hard core version of 'Into A Swan'. These new tracks show Siouxsie is back to full strength...
- 22.05 - Back for an encore! As it's Peel Night it's trick or treat time apparently,"you don't know what you're gonna get." We get a mad cover of 'Cish Cash'!
- 22.07 - "That's quite enough of that, thank you very much" says Siouxsie. Who then proceeds to say 'Hello' in as many languages as she knows.
- 22.09 - Next up it's a sleazy cover (if you can make it sleazier) of The Doors 'Hello I Love You'. Unbelievably it works!
- 22.15 -
And with that, that's it! There's no doubting this woman's iconic status... and here's hoping that at this Peel Night she inspired many new converts.

Siouxsie's performance was out-of-this-world. She never fails to disapoint. She was in great voice as she soared her way through a collection of new songs from her amazing debut sol album ' Mantaray' as well as performing a few of her hits with The Banshees. Her performance of Cish Cash was a real treat. Looking forward to seeing her again at The Roundhouse on Fireworks night.

Great gig...as a 40 something fan I have to give Siouxsie credit...she looks fantastic and sounds the best I've ever heard her. The new album really rocks and she pulled off a great performance. Was a little worried when she started playing lasso with the microphone cable(!) but she kept it under control and the karate kick that banished the microphone stand into the crowd showed us she meant business! What a role model for all us older fans...I'm off to buy the hair dye and leathers tomorrow!

Think Siouxisie was fab. I saw her last week on the 2 nights at Astoria but the lighting and sound systems made last night really special. Siouxsie's voice was spellbouding as usual and she looked like a model right off the catwalk. It would say is not 21 would you?Great evening, let's do it all again!!God bless John Peel!!!XsidX

A long time waiting for the goddess to return, and what a return it was, sexy raunchy and fab music, the vocals sound as good as the infamous Nocturne tour, it was good to see young fans there and appreciate what is a true legend of music, can't wait for the roundhouse gig.

It was a great night, the venue was intimate with great accoustics, the rendition of her new work was superb especially the hard version of into a swan brought the house down. I was right at the front and in my previous 4 visits to see her last time in 92 had never been this close, everybody was jumping up and down especially to Dear prudence and Arabian nights atmosphere took you back to a time sadly long ago, she is still an awesome beauty certainly the greatest female singer of all time with a massive stage presence can still twist the audience to a frenzy with a twirl of her hands and a swirl of her hips, your comments on the band were justified and you can never replace members like Severin, Budgie,S mith and all, but never the less Siouxsie is the band and over the years change is inevitable, yesterday was John Peel night and perhaps I feel some of her early hits would have hit the spot to mark the celebration. but if you missed last night you missed a great night.

Siouxsie put on a stunning performance, opening with 'dear prudance', a real upbeat number ...I used to run into my school library and sing on the top of my voice when I was about 14, fun memory much lol-age to myself!...she looks really stunning and could still move in typical siouxsie-esque snake-like manner, whilst holding a note and making it seem so smooth and effortless, a true performer, my only critique would be there were not enough of her old songs, I'd have liked to have heard her do 'cities in dust' and 'face to face' ..but then we all have our favourites!....although, that said, I preferred her live version of 'swan' , very powerful!..she chose what I considered to be a rather odd closing number as an encore, cover version of 'The Doors' song 'hello I love you', she did it very well, but both Wolfie and I were surprised she had not ended with something like 'spellbound'....a great evening, I can now say I have seen a living legend....thanx!

Absolutely stunning !! - how good does Siouxsie look (and sound) ?. Really enjoyed the new material too - no sense of nostalgia for me just a bright future for one of music's brightest stars. Girl Power anyone ? - no Siouxsie Power thank you very much. Probably the most worthwhile female act there is (along with P J Harvey of course) - looking forward to watching it all over again on TV.
