What's inside Kinnersley Castle?

Secret Herefordshire

Available for over a year

The eight-acre home of 15 bedrooms, over the years, has linked a Formula 1 driver, a WW2 Nazi sympathiser and a Saxon knight. Katherina Garratt-Adams moved in to the residence aged nine, with her family saving the grand house from demolition at a time when similar places, such as Sarnesfield Court, were demolished as no-one could keep it maintained. She tells 91福利社 Hereford & Worcester's Emma Davies how the castle was a prison, for former owner Ronald Nall-Cain, the second Baron Brocket, who was said to be in contact with high-ranking Nazi officials and had his properties handed over to the War Office. Other owners included the Le Mans winner Peter Walker, when he lived around Kingsland. At the point Katherina's family bought the castle, in 1954, it was in a state of disrepair. Years of restoration have kept it running as a private residence, which includes the country's second largest Ginkgo tree and several ornate 16th-century ceilings.
