Newshour

Available for over a year

A rare palm that flowers and bears fruit underground has been discovered by a team of scientists on the South-East Asian island of Borneo. The researchers say they are baffled as to how it is pollinated. One of the scientists said it was the first known example of its kind in the palm family. Newshour's Razia Iqbal spoke to the senior research leader, Dr William Baker from London's Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. (Picture: The rare palm species, Pinanga subterranea. Credit: Randi Agusti)
