Sira, the tale of a woman's struggle for survival after being kidnapped by jihadis in the Sahel, has won high acclaim at the pan-African film awards. The feature, by Burkinab猫 director Apolline Traor茅, was runner up in Fespaco's best fiction film category. Apolline Traor茅 had planned to make the entire film on location in Burkina Faso but the insecurity in the north meant that it was not safe to do so. Speaking about her film, she says she wanted to portray the terrorism in her country and leave audiences feeling what it is like to be gripped by fear.
