Sierra Leone's education minister on reforms and teachers' dispute

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Sierra Leone is making strides to improve its education system. According to a 2021 Unicef report, the country's government is among the highest investors in the sector. In 2018 the government announced free basic and primary education for all children, but despite the initiative, there are still problems. Some pupils are still unable to attend classes due to lack of safe schools, and more recently a group of teachers have called a strike over better pay and working conditions. David Moinina Sengeh is Sierra Leone's Minister of Education. He spoke to Focus on Africa's Esau Williams about education reforms, and also what the government is doing to address the grievances of teachers. (Photo: David Moinina Sengeh. Credit: 91福利社)
