Symphony No. 1 in B flat major, 'Spring'

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

In January 1841 the recently married Robert Schumann sat down and in a burst of energy composed his Symphony No. 1. It was written in four days, and has come to be known as his ‘Spring’ on account of its exuberance. Clara Schumann is, for her husband, the revitalising Spring. The quaility of this work - which she suggested he compose - shows her importance. Every note speaks of Robert's redemption and re-birth. Composer: Robert Schumann Performers: 91¸£ÀûÉç Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor: Gianandrea Noseda Recording date: 24 May 2007 Date of broadcast: 24 September 2007
