How literature can help combat homophobia in football

Not by the Playbook

Available for over a year

It's six years since footballer Anton Hysen came out as gay. In doing so he hoped other men in the game would come forward... They haven't. So perhaps the answer to making young gay footballers feel comfortable enough to announce their sexuality doesn't lie within the locker room, but within literature? David Kerby-Kendall has written 'The Rainbow Player', about an England footballer who has a gay relationship. The 91¸£ÀûÉç's Caroline Barker speaks to both Kerby-Kendall and Hysen about the book and how it can help. First, we hear an extract from the novel itself... Picture credit: Getty Images
