Remote island has 'world's worst' plastic waste density

World Update

Available for over a year

Scientists have long warned about how much of the plastic items we use end up in our oceans, but now they have found the worst case of plastic pollution. An estimated 38 million pieces of plastic have washed up on Henderson Island, located halfway between New Zealand and Chile. Researchers say hundreds of animal species are at risk from ingesting the debris that has collected there from countries around the world. Alex Bond is from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, a British wildlife charity. He told Anu Anand more. (Picture: Items of plastic on Henderson beach Credit: University of Tasmania)
