Muhammad Ali & Me: An inspiration through the darkest times

Not by the Playbook

Available for over a year

Actor and writer Mojisola Adebayo discusses her play "Muhammad Ali and Me" that tells the story of Ali's life through poetry and dance. The play which was originally performed in 2008 is back on show at the Albany in London four months after Ali's death and depicts the story through a fictional friendship between the former world heavyweight champion and a young girl in foster care in 1970's London. Mojisola describes Ali as "an inspiration to many through those dark times of the seventies and eighties" and told Caroline Barker it felt different to perform the play since his passing and that "there was a bit of his spirit in the space". She also believes Muhammad Ali "paved the way" for athletes such as Colin Kaepernick to protest in the way they do today.
