Abuse inquiry 'worse than poisoned chalice'

World at One

Available for over a year

Many people are qualified to run the government's independent inquiry into child abuse, but "not many if any" would be prepared to take on the job, says a former director of public prosecutions. Lord Macdonald, now a Lib Dem peer, said the job was "not so much as a poisoned chalice, as a lethal injection". He was speaking to Shaun Ley on the World at One after Dame Lowell Goddard stood down as inquiry chairwoman, the third person to quit the role since it was announced in July 2014.
