Good Morning Jersey

Available for over a year

It was the moment that heralded the start of the German military occupation of Jersey during the Second World War. At just after six o'clock in the evening on the 28th of June, 1940, the Germans began an air raid on La Rocque and St Helier harbour. 9 people lost their lives in the bombing and many others were injured. Germany was unaware the island had been left undefended after the British government withdrew troops and military equipment just a week before. Mike Weir, caught up with local historian Colin Isherwood to re-trace what happened on that fateful day
