The costs of preparing for the world's longest sled dog race

World Business Report

Available for over a year

How does racing on a sled 1,049 miles across frozen Alaska's scenic beauty, pulled by a team of 16 dogs sound? That's the Iditarod, the longest and most prominent sled dog race in the world. It follows routes blazed through history by fur trappers, native Americans and gold rush miners, all seeking to explore Alaska's bounty. But getting a dog team even to the start requires more than solid training and good cold weather gear. As Emily Schwing reports, it's a highly expensive, long-term endeavour.
