Lake Chad almost dry

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Lake Chad was once one of the largest lakes in the world, straddling the borders of Chad, Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon, but the UN estimates that as much as 90% of it has vanished over the last 50 years. Global warming and intense human water use are said to be the cause. Communities from its increasing population in the region depend on it for their livelihoods. The 91福利社's West Africa correspondent, Thomas Fessy, visited a lakeside community in Chad.
