Sexy zombie frogs

World Update

Available for over a year

Scientists in South Korea may have found an explanation as to why frogs and other amphibians are continuing to disappear across the globe. It's down to sexy zombie frogs. Or rather a fungus that turns frogs into sexy zombies. In one of the first studies to show a pathogen altering a species reproductive behaviour, researchers found evidence of the fungus spreading by making the mating calls of infected male frogs more attractive to females. Associate Professor Bruce Waldman from Seoul National University explains the findings of his study: (Picture: a male Japanese tree frog / credit: Bruce Waldman.
