Part three of Leonard Slatkin's four-part profile of Aaron Copland marking the centenary of Copland's birth. This episode begins in World War Two with Copland's account of how he came to compose Fanfare for the Common Man and follows him through his new vocal compositions, use of the 12-note system in Piano Concerto (1950), then the lyrical Old American Songs (1952). Interviews with Copland and contributions from friends and colleagues, including choreographer Agnes de Mille talking about working with the composer on their ballet Rodeo.
