Why a dolphin鈥檚 dorsal fin is like a fingerprint

Discovery

Available for over a year

Marine scientist Barbara Cheney explains that because dolphins often fight and play together, their dorsal fins accumulate permanent scratches and tooth marks. These unique marks can be used to accurately identify individual dolphins, and are a non-invasive alternative to radio tagging.
