'My wife's humour changed as she developed dementia'

Today

Available for over a year

A dramatic change in sense of humour could be an early warning sign of impending dementia, say UK experts. A new study from UCL鈥檚 Dementia Research Institute suggests that in the early stages of some kinds of dementia people will start to prefer slapstick to satirical humour. This includes laughing inappropriately at tragic events. Philip Grant, a campaigner for Alzheimer Research UK told the Today programme that his wife initially showed symptoms of what he thought were 鈥渜uirky aspects of behaviour鈥 but it was later discovered to be dementia.
