A dramatic change in sense of humour could be an early warning sign of impending dementia, say UK experts. A new study from UCL’s Dementia Research Institute suggests that in the early stages of some kinds of dementia people will start to prefer slapstick to satirical humour. This includes laughing inappropriately at tragic events. Philip Grant, a campaigner for Alzheimer Research UK told the Today programme that his wife initially showed symptoms of what he thought were “quirky aspects of behaviour” but it was later discovered to be dementia.
