Controversial campaign urges black communities to vote

Devon Daley

Available for over a year

‘Don’t take the colour out of Britain’ has been the message from Operation Black Vote for this year's general election. In April the campaign group teamed up with global advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi to encourage black British and Asian communities to register and vote in the upcoming elections. Stars including musician Tinnie Tempah, Paralympian Ade Adepitan, and the former England defender Sol Campbell joined the poster campaign, in which the celebrities were whitened up to encourage communities to register to vote. There is also a 60 second film with 91¸£ÀûÉçlands actor David Harewood, that shows him covered in white make-up, which he later wipes off. In this extract 91¸£ÀûÉç Radio Derby’s Devon Daley speaks to Lee Jasper, who has been involved in the Operation Black Vote campaign. First Devon gets reaction from people in Derby.
