20 years ago on April 6th 1994, Rwanda plunged into war and genocide. A plane carrying the Rwandan president, a member of the majority Hutu population, was shot down. Everyone on board was killed. Within hours Hutu extremists seized power and a murder spree began. 800,000 people were killed in 100 days. Venuste Nshimiyimana found himself sheltering in a school along with 2,000 fellow Rwandans. He was among the more fortunate ones who escaped and today he works as a 91福利社 Africa reporter.
