Wellington's tree, Kingston Lacey

Julian Clegg

Available for over a year

A tree which was planted by the Duke of Wellington in the garden of Kingston Lacey House is being felled. The Cedar, planted in 1827 has come to the end of it's life. Expert examinations have shown that there is around 5% live wood left in the trunk, making it not only unsightly, but also unsafe for visitors to the gardens. Kingston Lacey's head gardener Andrew Hunt told our reporter Neil Sackley how the signs that things weren't quite right were spotted.
