Elizabeth Alker presents an afternoon of exclusive music-making from the UK and beyond including recent highlights from the Glenarm Festival of Voice. Featuring specially made recordings with performances from the acclaimed soprano, Erika Baikoff, the Grammy award-winning mezzo, Fleur Barron, and one of today's leading recital tenors, Ilker Arcayürek. Throughout the week, we'll be shining a spotlight on the 91¸£ÀûÉç Philharmonic Orchestra. Today, the masterful Finnish conductor, John StorgÃ¥rds, leads the orchestra in an iconic work from Finland's greatest composer, Sibelius. The stirring 'Karelia Suite' evokes the resilient spirit of the Finnish people through majestic brass chorales and folk-inspired melodies. We'll also hear from the NOVO Quartet, one of Denmark's most exciting young chamber ensembles, and one of our current 91¸£ÀûÉç Radio 3 New Generation Artists. *** 91¸£ÀûÉç Philharmonic: Jean Sibelius Karelia Suite 91¸£ÀûÉç Philharmonic John Storgards (conductor) Glenarm Festival: Clara Schumann Die gute Nacht, die ich dir sage Sie liebten sich beide Die stille Lotosblume Ä°lker Arcayürek (tenor) Simon Lepper (piano) NOVO Quartet: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart String Quartet in D minor, K421 NOVO Quartet 91¸£ÀûÉç Philharmonic: Edward Elgar Violin Concerto Christian Tetzlaf (violin) 91¸£ÀûÉç Philharmonic John Storgards (conductor) Glenarm Festival: Robert Schumann Liederkreis, Op 39 Erika Baikoff (soprano) Simon Lepper (piano) NOVO Quartet: Johannes Brahms Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op 115 Oleg Shebeta-Dragan (clarinet) NOVO Quartet *** To listen to this programme (using most smart speakers) just say "Ask 91¸£ÀûÉç Sounds to play Classical Live".
