Shot of men on Mars from Space Odyssey
Is it worth sending a manned mission to Mars?

Sending a manned mission to Mars has been talked about for years. But is it worth it?

YES NO
We want to find out if there's life beyond the Earth. Mars shows signs of having once carried life. It's too dangerous. We don't know enough about long-term exposure to radiation and other effects of microgravity on the human body.
It's an investment in the future. Missions would require new technologies and skills. This would boost the economies of participating nations. It's too expensive. A manned mission would cost billions. Robotic missions are cost effective and just as successful.
