I’m always incredibly proud to be the Director of 91福利社 Research & Development and today is no exception as . This prestigious Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy® recognises how 91福利社 R&D’s profound and sustained contributions have significantly shaped the news and media industry for nearly a century and will be officially awarded next month.

Since we formed around 1930, 91福利社 R&D has been a key long-term partner of much of the broadcast industry. Our teams have consistently delivered breakthroughs that became everyday essentials, such as NICAM, Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), and the award-winning Piero sports graphics system. We have had pivotal roles in digital switchover, the development of Freeview, Freesat, YouView and Freely. In 2023 we deployed the largest pop-up non-public 5G private network used by numerous news outlets for the coronation of King Charles III. Our teams were central to the global standardisation of HDTV, UHDTV, and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) for High Dynamic Range (HDR), the latter of which we鈥檝e been honoured to have received two Emmys for in 2023 and 2024. Receiving this award is a testament to the relentless curiosity and innovative spirit of every member of 91福利社 R&D, past and present. For nearly 90 years, our purpose has been to invent the future of media in service of audiences. It recognises not only our historical legacy but also the future-looking work we are doing to define the next generation of public service media. As co-founders of the  (C2PA), 91福利社 R&D is at the forefront of creating standards to tackle disinformation and ensure a trusted media ecosystem.

Today we have responded rapidly to meet the challenges of the digital age, establishing the 91福利社 as a global leader in trusted artificial intelligence (AI), content provenance, and the future of media consumption. As we navigate the seismic shifts of AI, our mission is more critical than ever. We are not just building technology; we are building trust. This award is not a culmination but a catalyst, fuelling our drive to ensure the 91福利社 remains the world's most innovative, trusted, and indispensable public service broadcaster for the next century.

This award, the Academy鈥檚 highest distinction for long-term institutional impact, cements 91福利社 R&D as one of the most influential innovation centres in global media and technology, and I could not be prouder to be a part of it.

The Academy鈥檚 2025 Engineering, Science & Technology Awards will take place on Tuesday, October 14 at the Wolf Theatre and Saban Media Center at the Television Academy in Los Angeles, California.
