Ted Barnes: Seaside Dunce (3.54)
Ted Barnes has co-written songs with Beth Orton and played on her albums, and is also in the band Clayhill with Gavin Clark (Sunhouse) and Ali Friend (Red Snapper). This is from his second album, which comprises music that was originally written for a Channel 4 film, but was passed over in favour of something from a 'name' composer.

Timet/Mariposa: Merlo (5.56)
Mariposa are an Italian group who specialise in original interpretations of traditional Neapolitan songs. Timet is the recording name of Italian composer/producer Lorenzo Brusci, who was offered the material from Mariposa's 'Nuotando in un pesce bowl' album. This re-working, for example, is from a song written in 1926.

This is a cover version of a song originally performed by the Monks, a group who formed in the early 1960s as American GIs based in Germany. They would perform with tonsured heads and in monks' habits.

Mina Agossi: Why don't you do right? (2.31)
Mixing It played a track last year from this French/Beninoise singer's acclaimed debut 'Zaboum!' This new album, recorded in just three days, features a more stripped-down jazz ensemble sound. This is the opening track, a cover of a tune made famous by Peggy Lee.

AGF.3 + SUE.C: Gala Book (4.08)
AGF.3 + SUE.C is a collaboration between German sound artist Antye Greie-Fuchs and San Francisco-based vocalist/bassist/pianist and video artist Sue Costabile. They first got together at the Mutek Festival in 2002 when AGF performed at an Orthlorng Musork showcase and SUE C contributed visuals.

Guillermo Scott Herren, aka Prefuse 73's latest release is described as a 'transition between the last album and what's to come'. It is dedicated to airport security in America.

Battles: Dance (4.42)
Battles is a new band from New York, consisting of John Stanier from Helmet and Mike Patton's Tomahawk on drums, David Konopka of the band Lynx on guitar and bass, Ian Williams of cult band Don Caballero on guitar and sometime Prefuse 73 collaborator Tyondai Braxton on vocals, keyboards, guitar and electronics.

Stephin Merritt: At Madam Plum's (2.35)
Also known as Magnetic Fields, Stephin Merritt is using his own name on this latest release. It's a selection of songs he composed for three plays directed by Chinese theatre director Chen Chi-Zheng. This particular song is from the opera Peach Blossom Fan, originally written in China in the 17th century but adapted into this version in 2004.
