Friedrich Merz: Russia threatens 'political order of Europe'
German chancellor Friedrich Merz has said Russia is a threat to Europe that goes far beyond Ukraine.
Speaking to Today's Nick Robinson, he also said that President Trump is not as clear and committed to the fate of Europe as his predecessors, which is why European countries can no longer be 鈥渇ree riders鈥 on American defence.
His interview marks his first visit to the UK as chancellor, as well as the signing of the Kensington Treaty between Germany and the UK, which will see a new rail link between London and Berlin, school exchange programmes, and tighter people smuggling laws, among other things.
