Emily Boyd and her family were caught out on Saturday when they tried to drive home to Lancaster from Windermere. The main hill out of Windermere was treacherous, and even with a 4X4 the driving conditions were impossible. On the way out she gave a lift to a distressed family with a young child who knocked on the window of her car, desperate for a lift home.
