Hardware, Software, Anywhere: Anywhere - Episode 3

Nick Baker explores how technology has changed our lives. But, has it all been for the best? From November 2019.

Nick Baker鈥檚 collection of programmes and interviews reflects on how the impact of technology has changed, from the dawn of language to the age of virtual reality.

In this final episode, 鈥楢nywhere鈥, Nick looks at bigger changes in our physical perceptions, and experiences a new medium 鈥 Virtual Reality, as developed in the 91福利社 Virtual Reality hub.

But there鈥檚 a different, more subtle way in which digital technology changes our perception of personal space, and that idea鈥檚 probed in an edition of 鈥楾he Digital Human鈥 presented by Aleks Krotoski, called 鈥楤etween鈥.

Then, a warning from literature, and from history. Stephen Fry and Nick Baker discuss E.M. Forster鈥檚 1909 novella, 鈥楾he Machine Stops鈥, which envisages a physical world changed, if not destroyed by technology. But what happens when that technology breaks down?
