Joost's fighting spirit

Rugby union player Joost van der Westhuizen, died this week at the age of 45, six years after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

Joost won 89 caps for the Springboks and was part of their world cup winning team in 1995.

After his diagnosis in 2011, he set up the J9 Foundation to raise funds for the awareness of MND and to support families of those with the disease. He also worked with Dr Franclo Henning - the Chairman of the Motor Neurone Disease Association of South Africa.
