A former adviser to George W Bush has said the establishment "took a beating" with the result.

Ron Christie told the World at One that Republicans now have the "opportunity to prove to the American people that their rhetoric has not just been rhetoric".

P J Crowley, who served as assistant secretary of state under Hillary Clinton, said there is going to be "shake out" on both sides.
