Reporting the European Migrant Crisis
91¸£ÀûÉç producer Kostas Kallergis responds to comments from some listeners that the coverage of migrants in Europe has been superficial. Plus, listeners report more reception issues.
How is the 91¸£ÀûÉç covering the latest change in the situation for migrants across Europe? Earlier this week the EU and Turkey set out a plan to ease Europe's biggest refugee crisis since World War Two. Under the plans, still to be finalised, all migrants arriving in Greece from Turkey will be sent back. Many listeners from across the World Service audience have thoughts on how the 91¸£ÀûÉç are handling the developments. Some have said that they felt the coverage had been superficial and negative. Others say it may have been anti-immigrant and question why women and children are shown more prominently than the many male migrants. Rajan Datar speaks to 91¸£ÀûÉç producer Kostas Kallergis who is currently on the ground reporting on the daily events as they unfold in Greece.
And, following last week’s discussion of listeners sharing their reception issues in different locations across the world – many more audience members have got in touch with the drop out points near them.
