"He had pain and shame when he wore girls clothes"
Jeff and Hillary Whittington were delighted that their first child was a girl.
They called her Ryland. She was born deaf but with the help of cochlear implants and speech therapy, Ryland began to speak -- and when she did, she said she wanted to be a boy. Ryland is now 8 years old and is a transgender child who is being brought up as a boy. Hillary Whittington explained how she came to realise that their child wasn't happy about his gender.
