Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls has defended Labour leader Ed Miliband's interview with Russell Brand saying it was justified as it helped to spread the party's message to new audiences.

"This is the biggest choice in a general election in my lifetime and I want people to make the right choice and if Russell Brand doing an interview helps us get that message out so be it," he said.
