Drunken landlord Mat臎j Brou膷ek just wants to be left alone in peace, but life has other plans, catapulting him first to the moon and then to 15th-century Prague. Based on a Czech novel, Jan谩膷ek's comic opera is one of his freshest and most original works, with a score full of variety. It also has a serious side, with the profound sense of national pride which courses through the '15th-century' excursion.

Recorded at the Bregenz Festival in July. Flora Willson presents and is joined by Jan谩膷ek expert Nigel Simeone.
