Sara Mohr-Pietsch wends her way towards Brahms' melancholic late masterpiece, with swansongs from Faure and Mozart en route. Brahms had lost close friends and family towards the end of his life, but it's not all darkness: the set was composed on a lakeside summer holiday, and Brahms lets the light in with playful moments. On the way, Sara also explores the gentle rock of the lullaby, a disconcerting rhythm with Handel, and the knees-up of a nineteenth-century tavern in Vienna.
