Isle of Man
A musical journey to five British islands.
Colin MacIntyre is a singer-songwriter who performs as Mull Historical Society. He is on a journey to learn what being an islander means for musicians around and off the British coastline. Today, he is with award-winning composer Mera Royle, a harpist and violinist from the Isle of Man whose work is deeply rooted in the island鈥檚 distinct Manx culture. Although not part of the UK, the Isle of Man has its own parliament, Tynwald, and a strong sense of identity that continues to shape Mera鈥檚 music even after leaving as Colin did to further pursue her career.
Together, Colin and Mera discuss what being Manx means for a musician, how geography and heritage inform creativity, and why islanders often carry their home with them long after they鈥檝e stepped away from its shores.
