Aldeburgh Festival - Britten's Phaedra
Live from the Aldeburgh Festival, the Britten Sinfonia are joined by mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston for Britten鈥檚 dramatic cantata Phaedra, plus music by Stravinsky and Woolrich.
In the second of its live concerts from this year鈥檚 Aldeburgh Festival, the Britten Sinfonia presents a programme inspired by the classics. Youthful Britten is marked by radiant piece for piano and orchestra inspired by the image of Apollo, and the same source provides the inspiration for one of Stravinsky鈥檚 most imaginative and finely honed ballet scores, Apollon musag猫te - Apollo, leader of the Muses. Also on the programme is one of John Woolrich鈥檚 best known pieces, Ulysses Awakes, a reworking of music by Monteverdi, and mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston joins the orchestra for a performance of Britten鈥檚 cantata Phaedra. Presented by Martin Handley.
