Patti Smith: singer, poet, artist, activist and writer who has influenced artists including Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa. Smith's extraordinary career has spanned more than 50 years during which the poet of punk has refused to conform to stereotypes of what a woman artist should be.

Now she reveals how a DNA test led her to re-evaluate her own story. As her memoir is published, Smith tells Katie Razzall the book is written in gratitude to all the people she's lost.
