Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
Ahead of her Glastonbury appearance, a look at the definitive Alanis Morissette album.
Grunge and alternative rock were all the rage in the early to mid-90s, and hair metal scene of the 80s was swept away almost overnight. But while the critics and the industry were losing their minds to all these bands of angry young men channelling their pain and angst into their music, there was precious little space for female voices to be heard.
One person who absolutely transformed that situation was Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette, who paved the way for some many other young women to find their way in a male dominated music business.
In Long Player, ahead of her Glastonbury appearance, Steven Rainey looks at her third album, Jagged Little Pill, the record that saw her leave her dance-pop roots behind in search of something that would connect to a global audience.
