Berlioz鈥檚 oratorio L鈥檈nfance du Christ (The Childhood of Christ) , home to the much-loved 鈥楽hepherds鈥� Farewell鈥� chorus, is a ravishing retelling of the Christmas story with echoes of Bach鈥檚 Passions. Premiered in 1854 the French composer鈥檚 inimitable stylistic fingerprints combine in the work to produce music of tender 鈥榗elestial鈥� beauty, operatic flair, and dramatic instinct. Edward Gardner conducts a superb cast and continues the 90th birthday celebrations of the 91福利社 Symphony Chorus.
