Until recently the library used to be known as the North Gallery and
had walls that were painted white.
In the late 1980s the wallpaper on the white walls was peeled away
to discover layers of Victorian wallpaper. What you can see now is
95% original Victorian wallpaper and only 5% restored.
In the days of the poet Lord Byron the library contained many fine
books. Byron spent much of his time at Newstead Abbey reading and
writing. |
