Start the walk at the Tipsy Toad, one of the Island's most spacious pubs with its own brewery and serving an excellent choice of food. Cross the main road into La Rue de l'Eglise, with the St Peter's Bars on the right and leave the Church to the left (notice the light on the spire - the airport is close by). Turn right into La Rue de Bocage. Cross into La Rue des Niemes, then left into La Rue de la Presse.

Fork next right along Les Monts. Continue straight along the track until it bends sharply to the right to a house on the headland. On the bend is a bridle path leading down to Val de la Mare, affording magnificent views across the bay and the fresh-water "Mare au Seigneur" (St Ouen's Pond), formerly a part of the feudal estate of the Lord of St Ouen's Manor.

The bridle path rejoins the road at the bottom of Le Mont de la Mare. Turn right to pass Bethesda Methodist Church (1867) and the reservoir on the right (1961). Continue straight at the next crossroads, keeping parallel to the sea, and turn right up Les Hativeaux into Mont Matthieu - more splendid views from here to St Ouen's Church. The disused windmill on the left is one of only four remaining from seventeen in the 19th Century. There has been a mill here since 1331.

Walk through the churchyard to the car park at the rear and continue along La Cache de l'Eglise to the T-junction. Turn right towards St Ouen's Parish Hall (1882) - notice the ornate granite milestone at the junction. Turn right - The Farmer's Inn is on the left, a very typical Jersey country inn, affording the chance of a snack and a rest and perhaps of hearing Jersey French (Jerriais) being spoken at the bar.

The walk continues now down the lane behind the pub (La Rue de la Forge), then into La Rue de la Botellerie, crossing back into St Peter at this point. Turn right at the T-junction (La Rue de la Forge) and left into La Rue d'Elysee. Turn right at the next T-junction, then follow the lane past the castellated house on the left. This is an area renowned for its prize Jersey cows, often protected from the weather by green overcoats. Cross the main road at the Parish Pump into La Rue d'Auvergne, then right onto La Route des Hetres.

Cross over the next main road and fork left along La Rue de la Hague. Turn right opposite La Hague Manor down La Route du Manoir to return to St Peter's Village and The Star & Tipsy Toad.
