Festival Diary

The events and gigs of the 91福利社 Electric Proms hour by hour.

Saturday 28 October 2006

12.00

Saturday's events get off to a flying start with Steven Cantor and Matthew Galkin's film 'loudQUIETloud', which documents the reunion of The Pixies and their subsequent tour in 2004.

14.00

The second showing of 91福利社 New Music Shorts; a showcase of five films specially commissioned for the Electric Proms.

15.00

Former Police drummer Stewart Copeland arrives at the FREEDM studio to discuss his highly successful career as a film composer with 6 Music's Ian Nathan, and to take questions from the audience. Following that, there is a showing of Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out which documents the early days of one of the world's most successful bands.

20.00

The Main Space bears a striking resemblance to the Royal Albert Hall tonight as the full sixty piece 91福利社 Concert Orchestra assume their positions on the stage. There's an air of expectancy as Guillemots join them and the conductor raises his baton. Together they perform a wonderfully eclectic set that features megaphones, a theremin and animal masks.

20.15

Pigeon Detectives take the Barfly by storm, causing a mini riot as fans invade the stage. Somehow the band still manage to produce a fantastic racket!

21.15

Larrikin Love take to the stage at a beer soaked Barfly. The crowd, who all seem to have broad grins on their faces, dance wildly to the folk inspired tunes that sound like less shambolic Babyshambles.

21.30

There's a highly charged atmosphere in the Main Space as Kasabian arrive on stage. The turn the Round House into one huge party as their anthemic rock is soundtracked by the 91福利社 Concert Orchestra. It's hard to know who's loving it more - the crowd or the band. "It's been f****n' monumental!" declares lead singer Tom Meighan as the fans leave the building singing all the way.

22.30

The Asian Network night kicks off at the FREEDM studio. A fantastic event with performances from Tigerstyle, Niraj Chag and Bombay Dub Orchestra

22.30

The crowds chant and sing as they leave in high emotion from the Kasabian gig.
