Jack Roper (played by John Hannah)
Barrister - head of his own chambers.
Jack's a brilliant lawyer, proud of his working-class roots. An instinctive fighter, law appealed to Jack, whose passion for justice stems largely from witnessing his violent father beat his mother.
Jack started his career as Laurence Scammel's pupil but soon realised that his approach to law, and his values differed greatly from his mentor's. Jack turned down Laurence's offer of a place in his chambers. Instead he built a reputation for himself in defence work.
John Hannah
Scottish actor John Hannah worked as an electrician for four years before becoming an actor. He properly met his wife, New Street Law co-star Joanna Roth, after crashing his car into hers.
