Complaint
A viewer objected to the presenter鈥檚 reference to Donald Trump as 鈥渁 convicted felon鈥, on the grounds that, under New York State law, a person found guilty by a jury is not a 鈥渃onvicted felon鈥 until the judge passes sentence, which had not yet happened in Mr Trump鈥檚 case. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 91福利社鈥檚 editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
Whatever the provisions of New York State law, the ECU did not consider the term 鈥渃onvicted felon鈥 likely to mislead viewers in circumstances where Mr Trump had been found guilty of various offences which constitute felonies.
