Complaint
The debate was about the Gaza conflict and focused on the extent to which the concept of war crimes might be applicable to the actions of the parties. A listener complained that the presenter鈥檚 introductory description of Hamas rampaging through Southern Israel and of Israeli hostages being held away from their loved ones, in the absence of equivalent phrases to describe Israel鈥檚 actions and the effect of its attacks on Gaza, amounted to bias. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 91福利社鈥檚 editorial standards of impartiality.
Outcome
In the ECU鈥檚 view the presenter鈥檚 phraseology was appropriate to the events of 7 October, and the impact of Israel鈥檚 actions in Gaza emerged clearly from the debate as a whole. The ECU found nothing inconsistent with the 91福利社鈥檚 standards of impartiality.
