Complaint
A viewer complained that the selection and presentation of interviewees who had taken part in the Southport riots did not reflect the range of opinions held by those unhappy with the migration situation. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 91福利社鈥檚 editorial standards of impartiality.
Outcome
Impartiality does not necessarily require the range of perspectives or opinions on a controversial issue to be covered within a single programme. The aim of this programme, which was clearly signposted in the title, introduction and synopsis, was to explore why some people joined riots in the UK last year, and there was no obligation of impartiality for it to address the broader causes of public concern about illegal immigration.
