Accessing 91¸£ÀûÉç tools, systems and services  

  • 91¸£ÀûÉç studios, facilities, office space and 91¸£ÀûÉç ID cards will only be available to independent production companies with a current commission.  

  • Independent production companies are responsible for ensuring that their staff, regardless of the status of their employment (e.g. permanent employee, contractor or freelancer), are fully aware of, and comply with, the principles outlined here.  

  • Staff employed by independent production companies may have a 91¸£ÀûÉç login, or the use of a programme-associated generic login, if they have a current commission that is:  

  • a live show broadcast from a 91¸£ÀûÉç studio needing access to production systems such as VCS or iBroadcast, or to IT systems like audience email  

  •  a pre-recorded show that depends on access to production systems such as VCS to record the programme (e.g. an ‘as live’ music programme).  

  • 91¸£ÀûÉç logins created for independent production company staff will provide access to all necessary production systems. 

  • Independent production companies delivering a pre-recorded show produced off site not requiring access to 91¸£ÀûÉç production systems will not have a login. 

Proteus  

If you need access to a Proteus Paperwork account, email Proteus.Support@bbc.co.uk to request a login. This will need to be authorised by the business contact at your company. If you don’t know who this is, Proteus Support can confirm this for you.

iBroadcast  

iBroadcast is used for various tasks including , editing tracklists and adding guidance warnings. You can request access .

  • Staff employed by independent production companies may have a 91¸£ÀûÉç ID card where they have a current commission that requires access to 91¸£ÀûÉç facilities at a 91¸£ÀûÉç site to deliver the commission.  

  • 91¸£ÀûÉç ID cards will not be provided for any other purpose.  

Studios and office space  

  • The commissioning brief should indicate the studios, production facilities and office accommodation that will be available to deliver a commission.  

  • The agreed provision will be specified in the contractual arrangements prior to production commencing.  

  • Any provision of 91¸£ÀûÉç facilities or staff may be used only for the purposes of delivering the commission.  

  • Where a studio provided as part of a commission requires studio manager(s) to operate it, unless agreed otherwise with the commissioning network, the studio manager(s) will be employed or contracted by the 91¸£ÀûÉç. Additional operational staff hired by the independent production company, such as freelance sound designers, may work alongside the 91¸£ÀûÉç studio manager(s).  

  • Any additional time in studios or other production facilities (including studio managers where appropriate) above that specified in the contractual arrangements must be booked in advance with the relevant 91¸£ÀûÉç office and charged according to the published rate card.  

  • Office space in 91¸£ÀûÉç locations is limited. Office space that is not provided as part of the agreed commission will not be available. Where space is available it will be charged according to the published rate card.  

  • Where office accommodation is provided, this will be sufficient for the final preparations for the studio session such as to upload music / audio to VCS. It will not exceed a total of a half a day per studio session. Independent production companies should arrive with all production activity complete other than that which requires access to a 91¸£ÀûÉç system.  

Archive systems  

Independent production houses and 91¸£ÀûÉç Studios production teams making 91¸£ÀûÉç public service commissioned programmes can access 91¸£ÀûÉç Archive content. Using Archive Search you will be able to search and browse television, radio, and news archive collections.

Training  

  • Where self-op studios and other facilities are used to deliver the commission then training will be made available to independent production company staff at such times as the 91¸£ÀûÉç will determine. Independent production company staff must complete this training before any studio activity takes place.  

  • Where a studio is used for a live transmission, whether direct to network or via a continuity studio, independent production company staff using the studio must be familiar with the relevant transmission quality, evacuation, emergency, business continuity and obituary procedures.  

  • All independent production company staff with a 91¸£ÀûÉç login or using a 91¸£ÀûÉç generic login must complete the 91¸£ÀûÉç’s 30 minute online data protection course.  

  • All independent production company staff entering a 91¸£ÀûÉç site must be familiar with the applicable fire and other safety procedures. Those entering the W1 campus must complete the on 91¸£ÀûÉç Gateway.
